Istanbul and Christmas Continued!

Sorry this couldn't be one post, my blog is being a little crazy so be sure to read the post below this one to read more about my trip to Istanbul! :)

After our short visit to the Topkapi Palace we decided to go back to the Spice Bazaar to pick up some souvenirs.  We bought tea, glass tea cups, Turkish delights and tacky key chains with the evil eye on them.  In Istanbul you will see the evil eye all over the place, the eye is supposed to protect you and ward off evil spirits.  The reason they used an eye is because of the Greek mythological monster Medusa.  If you haven't heard of Medusa she is able to turn anybody to stone who looks her in the eyes.  Yep, pretty crazy.  Anyways, after searching around the Spice Bazaar for a while we began walking over to Galata Tower.  Galata Tower was the highest point in Istanbul when it was built, standing 219 feet tall!  This stop was definately one of my favorite places to visit.  You can take an elevator up most of the way but there are a several flights of stairs at the top.  At the highest point of the tower there is a restaurant and the option to walk around the perimeter of  the tower.  The view is amazing, I think it scared my friend Sarah, but not enough to make her regret the experience.  You can see all of Istanbul from there, it's really spectacular!  The elevator encounter we had shortly after walking around was much more traumatizing for everybody then the height. A couple very loudly kissing, eww!  No need to go into detail but it was quite disgusting.  Any how, after seeing Galata Tower we walked over to the pedestrian street to get ice cream.  I got goats milk ice cream which is very popular in Istanbul, it's actually really good.  It tastes pretty similar to regular ice cream but creamier.  After we finished eating we headed back to our hotel with one last magical walk down the pedestrian street.  It really was a great adventure and I would love to go back someday!!  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog! :)

The Blue Mosque

Three weeks ago I ventured into the fantastic land of Istanbul.  I can't really even describe what it was like!  European? Check!  Foreign? Check! Strange? Check! Friendly? Almost too friendly..then again most people just wanted us to buy stuff.  Our trip began at the airport, we hopped on the plane and headed to Istanbul Constantinople.  The Istanbul airport smelled spicy and we couldn't understand anything.  After going through customs we got in a van to take us to the hotel, the drive was amazing, all of the houses were built on top of each other, not literally but there were a lot of houses built in one area.  We dropped our stuff off in the hotel room and walked over to the pedestrian street near Taksim Square.  We found a restaurant with authentic Turkish food, the food consisted of meat, veggies, fries and other things I've never tasted.  As we finished eating a huge crowd of chanting citizens walked by, they were protesting something but since we couldn't understand them  I'm still not sure what it was.  While walking around later everybody wanted us to buy things some people would even follow us, they were really persistent.  After a good night sleep we had breakfast at the hotel, just breads and little danishes.  We decided to get a lot of stuff done, starting with the Grand Bazaar.  We took a cab and were dropped off a short distance from the market, I'm pretty sure when I walked in my eyes grew to the size of Anime characters.  It was amazing, there were hundreds of stalls selling almost anything you can imagine! Tea, food, scarves, rugs, furniture, clothing, and places to eat.  You basically had to bargain just to get the price at a reasonable number, if somebody said fifty lira we would offer twenty five.  Sometimes they would agree but other times we had to walk away because they wouldn't put the price down enough.  After the market we walked over to the Blue Mosque, as it slowly came into view our amazement grew.  On the outside of the mosque all of the dressing requirements were posted, long skirts and head scarves for women and long pants for men.  We walked into a small room where you took your shoes off and put them in a bag, the reason for doing so was not just for keeping the floor nice but also a sign of respect.  Inside the Blue Mosque there were domes and sparkling lights, there was a large area roped off where people were worshiping.  That's one very interesting thing about Istanbul, they probably do this in other places too, several times a day they have a call to worship.  I will put a video on of what it sounds like, it's not my own footage though.  After the Blue Mosque we found a place to eat nearby.  The food I ordered was pretty normal, just green beans and mashed potatoes.  By this time of the day I had to use the bathroom, not to go all TMI on you, I walked up to a very scary restroom.  The lights were automatic and while I was in the stall they freaking turned off!!  That had to be one of the scariest moments of my life, I yelled my friends name because I thought she was messing with me, nope she wasn't.  Meanwhile my friend, Sarah, pressed the wrong button on the toilet which caused it to spray water all over the place.  I later found out that a lot of toilets do that instead of toilet paper... or maybe both, I just thought that was different.  Didn't mean to write a whole paragraph about my Istanbul bathroom experience. :)  After eating we decided to go check out the Spice Bazaar, this market is similar to the Grand Bazaar but much smaller and sells less products.  We decided it was about time to go get some sleep and the fastest and cheapest way was the train.  If you've ever been to New York, Chicago or any other big city (and ridden the train) you know how crowded it usually is!!  Luckily the ride was pretty short, but to our disconsolateness we discovered there was a big trek up a hill to our hotel.  Eventually we made it, it wasn't easy haha we almost got taken out just crossing the street.  One very important lesson, we learned from books before hand but didn't believe it was true, was that if you're going to cross a street DO NOT STOP!!  It's amazing there aren't more accidents, but everyone seems to have street crossing down pretty well.  Just look for a stop in traffic and then run, I don't believe I saw any stop lights either.  Moving on, the next day was also very busy beginning with Hagia Sophia.  Hagia Sophia is another big tourist attraction because of it's vast history beginning in 537 A.D!  Crazy, right!? :O  We were lucky enough to arrive early because as we left the line had grown to triple the size it had been.  When this amazing structure was first built it was an Orthodox church, when Constantinople was conquered in 1453 it was ordered by Mehmed ll to become a mosque.  Late it became a museum and remains that today.  Inside Hagia Sophia there is a huge dome and several smaller ones with amazing mosaics and artwork all around the inside.  In the center of the ceiling there are four angels, three have there faces  covered and one was just recently unveiled in  2009.  The faces had been covered and unseen for 160 years because Muslim churches don't believe in having the human body depicted in church.  Once we had been all around the museum we decided to go check out the Topkapi Palace.  I honestly did not enjoy this stop because, one there were long lines and two most of the time was spent in a line staring at jewels and clothing. I'm sure many people would enjoy this stop but I didn't have the temperament for walking into five rooms that looked exactly the same, especially the circumcision room, that was great. <---sarcasm font="font"> data-blogger-escaped-font="font">data-blogger-escaped-nbsp="nbsp" data-blogger-escaped-sarcasm--="sarcasm--">

AHH I'M SO HAPPY!! It's Fall, Fall is DA BOMB DIGGITY!!:)   It smells so good...all the time:D!!!!  Oh, I also got ze braces.  They don't hurt anymore....but they're pretty icky:O

Umm, I'm also homeschooling for 8th grade haha....I'm really skipping around here...

I'm gonna put a list of songs on here sometime....I guess they won't be awesome for long though....

BYC PICS

BYC Just got there this morrrrning

Alrighty, so Sunday through Friday I have been at the most awesome, cool, amazing camp ever! BYC!  So despite any sadness or problems I have had this summer BYC was able to instantly turn that into happiness and love.  BYC stands for baptist youth camp and takes place at Laurel Ridge, North Carolina.  This camp is so welcoming and excepting you could be anyone and feel like you were at home.  The camp starts by playing ice breakers, breakin the ice games, which of course aren't the funnest but they weren't horrible.  Although I probably didn't make any life friends while standing in a group with the same shoe size as me it was still a fun way to start the week.  Ahhh I don't even know where to start!  Well the food I guess, it made me sick on several occasions, but I think it might just be the grease is most of the food.  They do have salads!  After dinner every night we would go to worship.  Worship was very spiritual and made you feel happy every day.  You would take your shoes off and sit on blankets and have an amazing time.  It was also very emotional as people would talk about their sadness they had experienced. Now to a different subject, the cabins. So everyone walks in and I'm of course like TOP BUNK and so is my frieeend Sarah. So later every one's talking about the new mattresses and how they are dark green so I dramatically flip my hair and look at my bed. And guess what?  IT'S LIGHT GREEN NOO!  Yes I had the only light green mattress and ya know what that means? No, you don't unless you are Anna.  Let's put it this way every morning when I woke up too early for the others I would be holding my breath to be quiet...of course my stupid bed was like eeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh urrrrrr when I got up or moved an inch. So I would just awkwardly smile when every one's angry eyes stared at me.  The showers also had some gorgeously large spiders...that didn't make sense ahh I'm tired, OK?  OKAY so we had exodus groups every morning after worship and announcements. We would read scripture and sometimes play a game. It was usually not super fun but I met some cool people.  Like Coke.   Okay so Sarah and I were watching a game of basketball and were giving people nick names and one guy was wearing a coke shirt so we called him coke.  Hehe he was my age so yeah he was in my exodus group.  I'm such a creeper...in a uncreepy way.  After lunch we would go to an interest group we had picked out. I picked Fun with Fur. And it was some serious fun! I got to dry felt, wet felt, spin yarn and cover a bar of soap in wool haha.  And may I say this week made me love photography even more!  I definitely want to make a living doing that.  Here's a picture of broccoli, it's at the top.... its good though, right!?  Well anyways after interest groups we have 3 hours of free time where I would mostly write letters to people and play games with my friends.  :)  Okay so we had a activity after worship every night like a talent show, bonfire, sundaes, skits, stuff like that. My favorite was the talent show! It was really fun and I loved a lot of the acts.  One boy sand Yound Wild and Free! It was HILARIOUS!  He was a small sixth grader and he asked if he could cuss hahahahahaa.  He was all "I'm 17 and I got peach fuzz on my face and so what if we go crazzzyy" it was awesome!  Bottom line is I met awesome friends and can't wait to go back next year!

Summer 2012

Okay so a friend has finally inspired me to write a new post...you know who you are.  Well summers out but middle school drama always finds a way to leak into everyone's lives somehow, right?  Not going into detail on that either cause most people who bother looking at my blog would know.  Sorry creepers who wanted to find out more about my life...don't cry.  Well my life has been pretty good, the age 13 is a little complicated sometimes but if it's possible I'm okay with that.  I'm gonna start running for cross country tomorrow so hopefully I won't have to start awkwardly speed walking. So I volunteered at VBS last week. Okay so am I the only one that thinks we shouldn't even TRY relay races with 4 year olds? Okay well for some reason we did and I'm not sure if it's my lack of being able to tie a stupid tool belt around a 4 year old fast enough or if it's just the kids lack of understanding but we lost every single race.  Well the kids weren't focused on anything but doing exactly the opposite of what I told them to do so I don't think they noticed.  So hey only one fail this summer so far right? WRONG! Many more!  I can't talk about everything because you know some people I'm talking about read this and don't automatically single yourself out because it probably is you! Just kidding.  Okay so what else HANG ME UP TO DRYYYYYY YOU'VE RUNG ME OUT TO TO TO MANY TIMESSSSS.  Okay so what the heck does that mean? What is it laundry singing or something? I shall reference the googles.  Okay so it means emotionally done and just through I guess like a wet towel....I can totally relate sometimes! Not like in a depressed way but in some situations it's like ughhh I'm done with you or this!! And not like a wet towel.  Okay moving on got a little side tracked there.  Lets see um so this makeup stuff is pretty crappy...hehe random but seriously are we girls supposed to put this rainbow stuff on our face to be beautiful? Um I think not? And then look like a demented rainbow when you shower? I double think not! And I triple think not about it because girls are using it to be gorgeous and please guys when it can increase skin cancer! Parabens uh hello!!!  Guys really need to understand they have it WAY easier than girls. Okay so one more thing on my mind then I will be done.... umm how bout music haha.  Oh yeah great idea there. Well lets start with some lyrics that are stupid okay "Hey I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number so call me maybe" this song is encouraging creeping! Are seriously buying these songs! Yes I bought this! We should not be encouraged to give out numbers to possible murders!  Yeah that's all I have on music not gonna lie...although that Nicki Manaj definately should NOT be famous...lets go to the beach each lets go get away they say what they gonna say?  Umm okay yeah I think not.

Snorkeling 12/22/11

Today was super cool...! Except I had to wake up early which to my school friends would seem crazy because for school I wake up at 6:30. Today I woke up at 7:30. ( Maui time meaning at home it was 12:30) It was worth it though because we went on a snorkeling cruise! We got on the boat at 8:30 am with 70 other people which might seem like a lot but the boat could hold 150 people. We had breakfast on board while we drove to our first snorkel destination (molikini). I was kind of freaked out about how deep and cold it was because it was already windy outside the water. Also I thought sharks might be there even though the only shark you would see was a reef shark probably. Snorkeling was fun there it was deep and weird that the fish we so far down but still really cool. We saw Yellow Tang, Parrot Fish, and Triger Fish. All the fish were swimming around in schools except for the Yellow Tang and Parrot Fish. ( I guess the bigger fish were solo) We were snorkeling for about one hour there and when we got back on my dad shared TIGER SHARKS had been spotted in that area 20 ft long! Nice time to share that lovely story. When we got back on the boat we sailed for an hour and a half to our next snorkeling area. On the way there we saw DOLPHINS they were adorable! They were Spotted Dolphins and they jumped into the air and followed the boat around:) I love dolphins:D Once we got to Lanai our second snorkeling place we swam around the edges of the coral reef. We saw some eels here but mostly some of the same things as Molikini. Lanai was calmer though and less busy. Bill Gates also got married on Lanai:] People still live there but I think it's mostly resorts now. Once we got on the boat again we returned our snorkel gear and got ready to head back. It was rougher on the way back then on the way in though. Shortly after we left Lanai the captain turned into a large cove and said he saw spinner dolphins! They were so awesome the dolphins jumped into the air and flipped! They were apparently resting in the cove....doing flips? Later on our way back we saw whales breaching, I'm not sure what kind they were and they were further away than the dolphins had been though. Once we got back we came home and ate pastaaa:) Today was super fun!

Sadly I could not take pictures because my camera was digital and would not survive if it was underwater. Also the whales, and dolphins were too fast for my camera. However I have videos that I may post on ISABEL'S MAGICAL KINGDOM:)

I don't really have a whole lot to write about today. We woke up late, left the house late and by the time we really did anything productive it was 12:30. At 12:30 we ate Taco Bell:D I personally love 7 layer burritos. ( and Brisk iced tea:)

After we ate taco's we drove to a beach, I'm not even sure what it was called because they have a LOT of beaches here. At the beach we waded in the water a little and read on the beach. After the beach we went grocery shopping at Mana Foods! Well before I bore everyone to death I'm gonna stop writing because frankly I'm boring myself..................... :)

My day December 20 2011

Soo I already posted today but that had absolutely nothing to do with Hawaii!! Today my parents went to this time share presentation thing. You are probably like what the heck, why would they do that? Well we are going snorkeling at Molikini in a few days and you have to take a boat to get there. By going to this presentation we get a discount for some reason. Like do they really think anyone's going to hear about getting a Time Share cause I'm pretty sure they weren't! I don't think it was amazingly fun for them though because all they did was sit and listen to sales people talk for two hours........ BUT HEY..... they had rice crispy treats:) While they did that Gabe, Amelia and I sat at Starbucks and read and did math. After we went to get sandwiches at a.... sandwich shop. We sat and ate at a park by the beach and looked at the tidepools after. THEN we got frozen yogurt (froyo)!

New Stuff

It's been...... let's seee.....8 months since my last post. So now I will proceed to tell you everything that happened in the last 8 months. Surprisingly it has been the most interesting 8 months of my life probably but I haven't done one post. So first over the summer we had a foreign exchange student stay with us. Her name was Svenja she was with us for about 3 weeks and than Amelia went to stay in Germany where she lived for 3 weeks. Since I have a lot more stuff to get through that's all I'm gonna say about summer vacation. It was very fun though. In August I started running or conditioning for running Cross Country because I decided to go back to public school. I started school in September and ran Cross Country for most of the season which I absolutely LOVED! Then in October at one of my meets a mosquito bit me and gave me a virus. Only I didn't know that when I was feeling super tired and sick for 10 days. I kept running and going to school for a few days but then I was too tired to go. I went to the doctor and they told me I had an ear infection and gave me gigantic pills to take. They didn't know I was going to have a seizure in 2 days though... and a stroke. I don't remember a whole lot of the first week at the hospital but getting my fingers pricked a lot. The second week I woke up for a little longer though and some of my friends visited. My walls were decorated with posters and I had a gazillion cards. We went outside sometimes and had yucky cafeteria food but mostly I think I just stared at the parking garage next door. The third week was the most productive because I was moved to the rehab level. There I had physical, occupational, and speech therapy, school and massage therapy. Everyones like OOOHH you got massage's but seriously even that I hated when I was in the hospital. I was absolutely thrilled when I was discharged from the hospital. When I got back Candice, Amelia, and Zach and Seth came over and through me a surprise party! Just about four days after I got out I went back to school. It was actually the beginning of the second semester so I didn't start in the middle. My classes were switched around and I had extra study halls because I couldn't take Physical Education. I went to physical and speech therapy once a week for several weeks though. About one week after I got back they started conditioning for Track and I joined that. Everything is about back to normal now though. I love running track with my friends and now I'm doing most of the things I was doing before. Now it's Christmas break and we are BACK IN HAWAII! Where I started this entire blog. I could probably make about 50 posts about the last 8 months but so far in Hawaii we have shopped, gone swimming, snorkeling, and gone to a lavender farm. Yesterday dad and Gabe went biking down Haleakala and dad tore his shoulder and now we are going to Barnes and Noble.

California

Last week we went to California for spring break! Starting at waking up at 4 am last Monday here's how our vacation went. Well we woke up at 4 am tired obviously and went to the airport. We took a plane to the Chicago airport and tried to get on the flight to San Francisco. We missed the 1st flight ughhhhhhh but luckily got on the second one.:D The plane ride wasn't so great. Four hours with no food but gobstoppers...ew. I did however get some reading done. Anyway when we got off the plane rented a car and began the...grumpy drive to the the town. Yes, grumpy but we hadn't had food for 5 hrs so it makes sense. Since our grumpiness started making the ride miserable we stopped and got pancakes:) Pancakes make everything better in my opinion. After eating we began driving up a mountain on curvy roads. I do not do well on curvy roads but lucky for Gabe and Amelia I didn't vomit. After 15 minutes of curves we arrived in the little town Bolinas. The house we stayed at was only a 5 minute walk from town...niceeee. Once we got settled in Gabe and I walked into town to see if they had a coffee shop. We saw a cafe but it was closed so we just went to the grocery store. After we had $80 worth of stuff we found out they only took cash. They had an ATM but the card wouldn't work! We had to call our parents to come down and tell us "we changed the password" yep. The next day mom and dad wanted to see the town too so we walked down and found this awesome book store! Nobody worked there so you just walked in and if you found a book YOU decided how much it was worth. It was pretty cool;) After that we decided to go look around for a coffee shop too and instead found a smoothie place! They had awesome smoothies and internet. Amelia and I got bored after a while though and decided to go find the beach. Once we found it we mostly just sat on the big rocks they had there. Later that day we went for a hike at this bird place. They were supposed to have tons of birdies. We didn't see a single bird but that was fine with me...until we got to the muddy part of the hike. We walked around it for awhile only to find out there was a stream we had to walk through. Gabe about had a panic attack when he saw that I think:P After that lovely hike we went on another hike down to some tide pools! Not only was the hike beautiful the tide pools were awesome. They had starfish, these squishy things we couldn't identify, and shells. Fun day! The next day we went to Muir Woods. It was really cool there too they had huge red wood trees. You would need a loooong ladder to get to the top of those. After the hike we got food. So I'm eating and out of nowhere comes the cutest chipmunk thing ever! It looked like a chipmunk only mini:D The people there must have known how cute they are because there was a sign that said DON'T FEED THE CHIPMUNKS! aww. On Thursday we went on an 8 mile hike. It started out really nice with an awesome view but about 2 miles of hiking up a curvy mountain later I was tired! It was pretty muddy in some places and just as I thought is this worth it? we saw the sign saying .5 miles to go. YAY! At the end of the .5 miles we saw the waterfall we hiked 4 miles to get to. So pretty! We had to go down a little steep hill to get on flat ground and that's where I got scared. We had to jump over a rushing river ( only 4 ft ) that led down a 50 ft cliff into the ocean! EEK! I made it but my heart was pounding after the jump. We found a place to sit on the Cliff and ate chips while Amelia and dad went down a path to the ocean. On the hike back it didn't seem as tiring. Just as we were about to get back some nude guy ran by! AND he had pants! He just wasn't wearing them. Freak. The next day we didn't do much just hung out and went to the beach. Saturday however was busy and fun. We had to go down the curves again yes but a day in San Francisco was worth it. First we walked over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a pretty view over the ocean and you cold see Alcatraz. Then we went to Japan Town! My favorite. We went to the mall there and shopped! They had good ramen noodles. Lastly for Amelia we went to Berkley. We looked around the campus there and got frozen yogurt. That stuff rocks:D Another awesome day! Our last full day in California was spent mostly hiking. This time the hike was flatter and less muddy. It was by a river mostly and finished out on a huge rock cliff with a river flowing under it. The water was amazing looking it had different layers of blue. That night we decided to make smores. Cause what better way to end a vacation then eating smores!? They we pretty good:) That's how our vacation went mostly. It was the coolest vacation ever! Bye Bye!

Last week I went to SC it was really fun! I got to hang out with my Cousins and relatives. We also shopped at Target and Penny's. So spring is supposed to start on the 21st next month and it's still snowing! grrr Who wants spring!?

Castles, and bridges

Ok so today was loooong. As always we woke up and went down to breakfast. It was really good:P Then we went with 4 other people ( we know them, just not saying names here) into a bus thing and drove. We drove for about 2 hours and on the way were a lot of little villages. There were also a lot of people selling different things in the middle of the road. Once we got to the rain forest we were going to, we signed up for a swinging bridge walk. The walk was really cool it was really high up though. ( I will post pics of that 2) It was a super thin bridge but apparently it could hold 8,000 pounds! ( 2 elephants) It was about 150 feet up too. There were not many animals ether just a lot of lizards. After this walk we drove about half an hour to a castle. The castle is where slaves were kept before they went to work on different farms. The castle had 2 moats around it in case the British tried to attack. It was built in the 1400's by the Portuguese before Columbus discovered America. There were 2 different sections where they kept the men and women. If any of the slaves tried to escape they were put in a really small dungeon with no windows for a few days. If the soldiers gaurding the castle got in trouble they were put in the dungeon too. But the dungeon they were in had windows and they were only in there for a few hours. It was pretty interesting, but sad. The ride home seemed like it took forever because the traffic was very busy. Also the people in Africa are kind of bad drivers:P Only one more day in Africa :( Here are the pics! Africa

Hi everyone! Here is my post with Africa pictures I promised :) It's really warm here. Today it was 90! I just got back from the pool yayyy! This morning we went to the market. It was really cool....but hot. They had a lot of wooden masks, and statues. I got a pair of earrings and a bracelet. ( I will post some pictures of that) Yesterday when we got here we took a walk on the beach. It was really crowded in some parts, but it was nice. A lot of people tried to sell you stuff too. They tried to sell you pictures, and wanted to paint your nails even. 1$ for us is $1.50 for us. Well here are the pictures. Enjoyyyy(: On this post there's a picture of the bracelet I got. In the center are carved masks I saw at the market. At the bottom is a picture of the pool at our hotel. I will also post pictures on the side of my blog. Tomorrow I will post byee! =]

On the left are my amazing socks that show I'm a fun person ( usually) in the middle are my feet in front of all my stuffed animals showing I love stuffed animals, and of course to the right are my feet in front of my window with snow in the background showing I live in a cold place.
